Steven Bowditch Wins Valero Texas Open

Published

Steven Bowditch seemingly came out of nowhere to with the 2014 Valero Texas Open this week.  Bowditch entered the field as one of the many searching for their first PGA TOUR title and left with one of the few coveted invites to Augusta. The win marks yet another Aussie, along with Jason Day, John Senden, and of course Adam Scott, to appear in the winners circle in the last 6 months.

Bowditch fought off Matt Kuchar in the final round despite finding trouble off the tee most of rounds 3 and 4.  Bowditch’s short game however was simply magical, as he was able to escape numerous sticky situations by dropping one ‘up-and-down’ after another.

Not only will the first time PGA TOUR winner be eligible for the  2014 Masters, he has also earned a spot at the Players Championship, PGA Championship, and of course the 2015 Hyundai Tournament of Champions next January. The $1.16 million dollars in earnings and 500 FedExCup points that bumped him from 155th to 26th place on the standings was just the cherry on top.

After he notched the career changing victory, Bowditch caught up with reporters Sunday. “I’m over the moon. I really can’t believe it,” said Bowditch. “Every time I got out of check, looking ahead to the Masters and winning golf events and making my speeches before I was finished, I had to pull myself in check every time.”
