Cameron Smith Offers Another Non-Denial Over LIV Golf Reports
Cameron Smith sure sounds like a man who will be on the move once the FedEx Cup playoffs are over with.
Responding to reports that the Open Championship winner and PGA Tour FedEx Cup championship contender will be joining LIV Golf for their 2023 season, Smith offered a non-denial similar to what he said after winning at St. Andrews last month.
Smith said:
“I have no comment to that… I’m here to play the FedExCup playoffs. That’s been my focus the last week and a half, that’s what I’m here to do–I’m here to win the FedExCup playoffs.”
The report stated that Smith will receive a $100 million signing bonus to join the rival tour in 2023. Fellow PGA Tour player Cameron Percy said that Smith and fellow Australian Marc Leishman will both be bolting from the tour.

In response, Smith said,
“If there’s something I need to say regarding the PGA Tour or LIV, it will come from Cameron Smith, not Cameron Percy. I’m a man of my word, and whenever you guys need to know anything, it’ll be said by me.”
Signing Smith, No. 2 in the Official World Golf Ranking, would be a major coup by LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman, as his tour has gained a reputation for signing big-name but aging golfers whose best days on the course appear to be behind them. Acquiring the reigning champion of both the Open and The Players Championship and possibly the FedEx Cup champion would be a huge get for LIV.
