CHA-CHING: Is This The Greatest Golf Bet Ever?

Betting on sports has always been a popular exercise for fans, especially now that it has become legal in some states across the U.S. But for one gambler, he might have just pulled off the greatest golf bet of all time.

Typically when fans are placing a bet on a golf tournament, they’ll simply put some money on one or a few guys to win whatever tournament is being played. Some guys will just throw a punt bet out too, putting a tiny dollar amount on a longshot to win, in hopes that their small wager could end up bringing in some monster cash. This unidentified person went with the punting strategy, but not on a winner.

According to Sportsbet.com, an unidentified bettor placed a one-dollar bet on a massive 20 player, head to head parlay. For those not familiar with the gambling lingo, a parlay means that every single leg of the bet has to happen for you to win. It’s a popular bet tactic to try and stack odds to create a bigger payout. So this person put together a 20-person parlay for head to head matchups between players at the BMW PGA Championship. And the results were huge.

I’m sure when this person placed their one-dollar bet at nearly 1 in 700,000 odds, they never expected it to pay out but they nailed every single one of their picks. And since it was a $1 bet at those odds, this person turned their punt play into just shy of $700,000. For scale, that’s only about $400,000 less than Tyrell Hatton got for playing and winning the event!

We’ve seen some amazing golf bets over the years that have been discussed as the greatest golf bets ever. For example, James Adducci flew to Las Vegas to place a bet of $85,000 on Tiger Woods to win the 2019 Masters that netted him $1.2 million. While that payout was higher, I tend to think this parlay is more impressive just because this person needed so many different things to happen to win. So while the payout isn’t as large, the craziness of the bet itself makes it more impressive.

There are big congratulations in order for whomever the mystery bettor is and hopefully, they don’t burn through that money too fast. And with much more golf coming our way this year, maybe we’ll see some more people rack up big earnings on wild golf bets.
