Chez Reavie Hits Historic Ace At Tour Championship

The Tour Championship means a ton to players that are near the top of the FedEx Cup standings, as how they play in this event could mean the difference of millions of dollars. But it’s nice to see some fun stories coming out of the event this week.

One of those stories revolves around player Chez Reavie. Reavie entered Friday outside of the top-20 in the tournament but ended up moving up multiple spots thanks to his strong front nine. He started the first two holes with birdies, then added two more at 6 and 7 following a bogey at the 4th. But the real magic for Reavie came at the 9th hole.

The 9th hole at East Lake is long par-3 measuring over 230 yards. Feeling the momentum from the previous holes, Reavie stepped up with his three hybrid and smacked his tee shot right to the front of the green. From there, the golf gods gave Reavie the perfect bounce that allowed the ball to roll all the way into the hole for an ace.

This ace is big for a variety of reasons. For one, it’s the longest hole-in-one hit in the 2019 season thus far, beating Nick Taylor’s 221-yard ace at TPC San Antonio a few months ago. The shot was also historic because it became the longest hole-in-one recorded at the Tour Championship since its inception.

As for the rest of Reavie’s round, he finished at six-under on the round and on the tournament. Even with that round, he currently sits seven strokes behind co-leaders Brooks Koepka and Justin Thomas. With both of them higher in the FedEx Cup rankings than Reavie, he definitely won’t be moving to the top of the FedEx Cup rankings but he’s certainly looking at a big payday.

The performance today will be enough to keep Reavie around for the weekend and give him the opportunity to earn more cash. And for someone that knows he’s out of the running for the big prize, Reavie should be able to relax and build up some cash on Saturday and Sunday.
