Closed Shop: LIV Golf Denied World Ranking Points by OWGR Committee
The OWGR has decided that LIV Golf will continue to be excluded from ranking points.
Peter Dawson, chairman of the OWGR board, has released a statement ensuring that the board is not at war with LIV Golf and that the denial is purely technical – not political.
Regarding LIV golfers, Dawson said:
“They’re just not playing in a format where they can be ranked equitably with the other 24 tours and thousands of players trying to compete on them.”

It is entirely technical. LIV players are self-evidently good enough to be ranked.… pic.twitter.com/UQ4Gao0eAu

So the quest for world ranking points continues for LIV golf, with players like Dustin Johnson and Bryson DeChambeau continuing to tumble down the official rankings.
It is a point of contention for pro-PGA and DPWT fans, where we just witnessed the Alfred Dunhill Links being shortened to 54 holes after terrible weather left courses like Carnoustie in terrible condition.
The lack of 36-hole cuts and 72-hole events were issues that could’ve been overcome for the OWGR, according to Fried Egg Golf – the limited fields were more of an issue for the committee. The “closed shop” was the deal breaker – and LIV is still shut out.
