Cobra’s 2023 Iron Lineup Is Possibly Their Best Yet
Cobra Golf has struggled a bit recently with its iron offerings. The KING MBs, designed largely with Rickie Fowler’s help, were certainly drool-worthy, but only a very, very small portion of golfers were capable of playing them (indeed, Fowler shelved them after a few events and put some more game-improvement clubs in the bag). The KING TOUR MIM, likewise, had a lukewarm reception, despite the industry-exclusive manufacturing techniques.
The 2023 Cobra KING TOUR iron lineups, however, bring a breath of fresh air into the Cobra lineup.

Consisting of three different models—the MB, CB, and TOUR—that each go through a 5-step forging process with 1025 carbon steel to provide a premium, solid feel.

Starting with the TOUR, a cavity back design features hidden technology: a CNC milled undercut on the backside of the clubface allows the insertion of additional weighting to help dial in center of gravity, while a TPU insert helps reduce unwanted vibrations. Despite the technology, the TOUR presents a more player-inspired look with a thinner topline, reduced offset, and a slightly shortened blade length.
The MB and CB, instead, feature solid-piece forgings. Careful craftsmanship and design, along with the multi-step forging process, have eliminated the need for tungsten plugs—like those used in the 2019 KING Forged CB/MBs—to help fine-tune the center of gravity.
Sadly, the MB/CBs can only be bought as a flow set, meaning golfers will get the cavity back in the 4 to 6 iron and the blades in 7 through pitching wedge. 3 irons and gap wedges can also be added to the set, but whether you can purchase a full MB or CB set is unknown. The latter seems like a missed opportunity, especially since it appears that new Cobra Staffer Gary Woodland will be playing a full set of the MBs.

The only dilemma I see is potential overlap with the TOUR and Tour MIM, as both models seem to target the same category: player’s distance.
Alongside these new additions also comes the KING TEC Utility, which features the same very clean design traits found in the other TOUR models. A hollow-body construction filled with foam is combined with PWRSHELL technology to maximize launch and distance, and an A.I. designed H.O.T Face for more speed and efficient spin across the entire clubface.
While the new equipment needs to get into fitters’ and golfers’ hands first, it appears that Cobra has positioned itself to be a serious contender with its new KING TOUR driving iron and iron lineup in 2023.
