Collin Morikawa Claps Back at PGA TOUR Vet Who Wants AimPoint Banned
Collin Morikawa clapped back at Lucas Glover, who said last week during an appearance on his own podcast that he believes AimPoint, a popular green-reading technique, should be banned from the PGA TOUR.
Glover’s arguments for banning AimPoint involved everything from the time it takes to complete the entire process, to the damage it does to the green, especially around the hole.
It is utilized by many players on TOUR, including Max Homa, Adam Scott, Keegan Bradley, and Viktor Hovland. However, with the latest discussions by the TOUR to improve the pace of play during tournaments, everyone, including players and fans, are putting in their two cents regarding the changes that should be made.
Not everyone sees removing certain techniques as the answer, though. Collin Morikawa is one of those players.
In response to Glover’s suggestion that AimPoint be banned, Morikawa said that things other players use to improve their game should be banned as well. He used an example specific to Glover, stating that long putters should be banned:

The issue is that Morikawa’s rebuttal is not necessarily an apples-to-apples comparison. Glover’s suggestion was to eliminate it because of its disruption to the pace of play and how it can damage the green near the hole, impacting how players’ putts will roll.
Morikawa is comparing it to Glover’s, and other players, use of a long putter to improve their performance. The issue is a long putter does not slow the game down, nor does it damage the green.
More things are being done by the PGA TOUR to eliminate excessive time, including mulling the potential use of rangefinders during competition.
