Collin Morikawa is Over the LIV Merger Talks: “It’s all Fluff”

As the talks among the PGA Tour, DP World Tour, and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) extend into 2024, we’re seeing all sorts of reactions.

Rory McIlroy appears ready to move on. As does Phil Mickelson.

Greg Norman has even said enough is enough (as hard as that may be to believe).

It’s leaving more and more PGA Tour members with this reaction: Over it.

After Mackenzie Hughes said as much earlier this week, Collin Morikawa is also ready to move on – even going so far as saying that he’s tired of the emails from PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan updating the state of the negotiations.

“There’s no point in reading these emails anymore,” Morikawa said on Thursday after the first round of The Sentry.

“Players are saying one thing and then they say something else some other time. At this point, I think deals need to be made, and we all need to get back to playing golf.”

Morikawa says he’s looking forward to a time when the well-known players at LIV Golf are back playing against the PGA Tour’s best more than four times a year.

“Not that it takes away from the PGA Tour, but there’s great players in other parts of the world, and I think we miss that,” Morikawa added. “I do miss playing with everyone at one time. That’s why the majors have been fun over the past year, two years.”

“But there’s so much back and forth; it’s all fluff.”

Morikawa fired a -8 in the first round of The Sentry and was one shot off the lead. He famously blew a 6-stroke lead in this event last year to Jon Rahm.

Chris has played some famous courses in the state, including Bay Hill in Orlando and Innisbrook in the Tampa Bay area, and next on his to-do list is the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass to take a crack at the famous island hole.
