Collin Morikawa Pokes Fun at TOUR Championship Format
If it were not for the staggered start at the TOUR Championship, Collin Morikawa would have walked away from East Lake $25 million richer.
However, the PGA TOUR’s polarizing and somewhat controversial format for the TOUR Championship left him in second place in the season-long race for the FedEx Cup, despite the two-time Major Champion having a better tournament score than winner Scottie Scheffler.
Due to the points standings, Scheffler started the week at -10 on Thursday.
Morikawa, however, had a better net score than any player this weekend. Due to the staggered start, his gross score was good enough for second place. He started four under par on Thursday, finishing at -26 on Sunday. He was -22 for the tournament.
Scheffler finished -30, starting at -10, going -20 over the four-day span.
Morikawa poked fun at the fact that he had a lower net score than anyone, including Scheffler, on Instagram:

Morikawa’s finish was good enough for $12.5 million. Scheffler walked away from the weekend with $25 million, putting him at over $62 million in earnings for 2024.
