When it comes to what grabs the attention of the social media universe, it is certainly a mixed bag.

When taking a look at the most viral stories on Golficity’s Facebook page this past year, stories about the infamous June 6 “framework agreement” among the PGA Tour, DP World Tour, and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund were nowhere to be found.

That’s not to say LIV Golf wasn’t well-represented on the list, but the types of stories covered a wide range.

Here’s part one of our look at the most viral Golficity stories of 2023, starting with No. 10.

#10 LIV Stands Strong at the Masters

Plenty wondered what was going to happen when LIV Golf and PGA Tour pros shared a course. What we found at The Masters was that it wasn’t as big of a deal as everyone expected it to be.

Brooks Koepka dueled with Jon Rahm in the final round, and Phil Mickelson rallied to finish second at Augusta, yet life went on for both tours.

The same happened the following month when Koepka won the PGA Championship.

#9 McIlroy Resigns From PGA Tour Policy Board

Rory McIlroy, citing a move back to Europe, resigned from his post on the PGA Tour Policy Board.

This was important because McIlroy and Tiger Woods, who was appointed to the board in August, were two prominent voices on the board that was working to finalize the framework agreement with the PIF.

#8 Tony Finau Not Going to LIV Golf

You can start to see a theme here: LIV Golf news dominating the golf world. After Jon Rahm accepted a deal from LIV Golf, rumors were strong that Tony Finau was going to follow.

But in mid-December, Finau shot that down.

#7 Brooks Koepka Unanimously Wanted on U.S. Ryder Cup Team

Despite LIV Golf pros being suspended from the PGA Tour, Brooks Koepka earned enough Ryder Cup points from his PGA Championship win and runner-up at the Masters to warrant inclusion as a Captain’s pick.

While the outside world wondered if Koepka would be included, it was reportedly an easy decision from inside the room.

#6 Hank Haney: Ryder Cup Picks Confirms the ‘Boys Club’ in Golf

Tiger Woods’ former swing coach Hank Haney was among those criticizing the Ryder Cup Captain’s picks of Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth, and Collin Morikawa, who combined for zero wins on the PGA Tour in 2023.

Keegan Bradley, who won twice this year but was snubbed, said that he feels like he has to finish in the top-six in the standings to earn an automatic bid in order to make the team.
