Darren Clarke Joins Exclusive Class in Open Championship History
Darren Clarke is a major winner once again just 11 years after his Open win at Royal St. George’s Golf Club in 2011. Clarke battled his way to a rainy Sunday at The Senior Open to oust recent winner Padraig Harrington by one shot.
It would’ve been two straight major wins for fellow Ryder Cup Captain and friend, Harrington.
Exclusive Class
Darren Clarke joins the exclusive class of Gary Player, Tom Watson, and Bob Charles that have won The Open and also The Senior Open. Clarke had a few words to share after his win.
Delighted to win #SeniorOpen. Extremely proud to join such illustrious company in winning both The Open and Senior Open. Thank you so so much for your messages and support 👍 pic.twitter.com/ICCdCm728r

Humbling Moment
Truth be told, Clarke is a hard worker and counts his blessings. He realizes the feat and dreams he had of hoisting the Claret Jug since he was a child.
Now to be holding another one, it will fit right next to the other (claret jug) in the trophy case.

Open Exemptions
Well done, Darren Clarke, on a very deserving victory, this win will earn him an exemption into the 2023 Open Championship at Royal Liverpool. However, Clarke did not need the invitation because of his 2011 win at The Open, which earned him the right to play until he is 60.
All things considered, we will see the Irishman for at least 7 more Open Championships if he so chooses to play in them.
