DEBATE: The Masters or The U.S. Open?
Is it really debatable?
With all the craziness in the world right now, this couldn’t be a better topic to talk about.
Obviously from a fan’s point of view, which event excites you more? The Masters or The U.S. Open. Both are majors and while they both come with a massively prestigious honors, they both come with a boat load of cash.
Recently, a show on golf.com titled, “Thats Debatable” recently debated over the topic in length.

One of the show hosts, Andrew Tursky, went on to make some solid points about what the U.S. Open had to offer. He mentioned the variety that the U.S. Open has to offer, with the changes and challenging course layouts. Obviously with this adds to the drama, but you can’t get more drama than Augusta National from Monday through Sunday of Masters week, right?
He went on to argue that the U.S Open had a more challenging field than The Masters and one of its biggest differences is that more amateurs have a chance to qualify. Sprinkle in the U.S. Open winning cash prize ($2,250,000) is also bigger than The Masters $2,070,000, but it’s minor really. But you’re getting a jacket too, and I don’t think you can put a price on that.

Show co-host David Denunzio came back to counter that there was nothing like The Masters.
“The U.S Open is a special tournament. As a kid I used to dream of winning The U.S Open, but as I got older and wiser, those dreams switched to putting on a green jacket! In 86’ when Jack Nicklaus won The Masters, do you think he even had a chance of winning The U.S Open that year? The Masters sets it up for a lifetime of competitiveness.”
Tursky went on to win the debate, but I have to say, I don’t agree at all. And that’s what opinions are for.
If I had to pick one tournament to play in over the two, I would pick The Masters 10 out of 10 times. To me it has the class that no other tournament could ever offer. Walking the grounds of Augusta National is a treat within itself. The traditions alone of this tournament are unique.

The Masters is the better tournament to play and to watch hands down and I think most players on TOUR would agree with me.
Tell me otherwise.
