Did Costco Just Release a Better Golf Ball than Titleist?
Yes, Costco, the global retail behemoth known for gigantic warehouse shopping centers and dirt cheap prices, have just released a Kirkland Signature golf ball….and it may just be the best performing ball on the market.
It’s come with its share of controversy as big names like Hank Haney and Michael Breed have come outright to discredit initial ball tests because they claimed robust robotic swing tests were not utilized, rather human testing incorporating complex algorithms to account for variances were used.
Specifically the impressive results I’ve heard about derived within the performance center at MyGolf Spy and they are firmly standing by their findings. They documented that in some cases it was 30 yards longer but overall performed better than Titleist.
Regardless what the tests show, these Kirkland Signature golf balls are being sold out in a matter of hours and needless to say, Titleist is getting very nervous. They spend millions and millions of dollars on marketing and PGA endorsement deals to show the world why they are the #1 brand for, in this case, golf balls. Now all of a sudden a company that sells “5 gallons of mayonnaise” has thrown themselves into the octagon and is ready to prove they can outperform them at a much cheaper price point. This could be a huge win for the consumers if this all proves to be accurate.
Kirkland is by no means a flashy brand, the marketing and visuals are textbook bland but that is the model that works for appeal to consumers because they value the quality and shelf price much more than looks.
