Early Hype for Netflix PGA Tour Doc Series Has Us Looking Forward to 2023

Formula 1 got a huge burst of popularity over the past two years since the Netflix documentary series “Drive to Survive” debuted, and it’s looking like golf may be next in line for such a boost.

The auto-racing series proved that people love some drama, and 2022 hasn’t been without its share of drama on and off the green due to the PGA Tour and LIV Golf duking it out on some courses, at press conferences, and on social media. And it’s all been captured for our enjoyment.

The producers behind the F1 series are putting together a similar look inside the world of golf that will debut in early 2023. Chad Mumm, the producer of the series, promised some excitement about it on Twitter this week.

He went on to add, “There will be memes. I’ll leave it at that.”

In addition to on-course storylines like the return of Tiger Woods at the Masters and his farewell at St. Andrews, Matt Fitzpatrick and Justin Thomas’s major wins amid Will Zalatoris’ heartbreak, and Cameron Smith outdueling Rory McIlroy at the Open Championship, there were tons of behind-the-scenes drama with golfers defecting to LIV on a seemingly weekly basis over the summer.

And the doc is capturing it all, as they followed not only several PGA Tour stars, but Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, and Sergio Garcia—all signed on with LIV now—will also be featured.

In addition, Justin Thomas added to the hype in an appearance on “The Tonight Show” with Jimmy Fallon on Monday.

Thomas said on Monday:

“To be perfectly honest, in a situation like this, I am a little more nervous with a film crew because this is not my comfort zone… It’s just going to give a lot of people (the opportunity) outside of golf to take a look inside of golfer’s lives. Just more of the day-to-day. They had moments where they’re in the car with me driving to the golf course or they’re watching me work out, or they’re having dinner with some guys.”

We leave you with a look at some of Thomas’ exploits with Fallon from his appearance.
