There’s an old saying that says: One bad decision can follow you for the rest of your life. And boy, if that isn’t true for Patrick Reed and his cheating incident back in the Bahamas.

It’s virtually impossible not to know the story by now as it was highly publicized during the incident, and questions have continued for Reed, months following. He appears to have used his club to give himself a better lie in the bunker and he was punished with a two-stroke penalty. Reed has refused to admit his actions and has yet to apologize, putting him at odds with many in the golf world (who are happy to keep bringing the situation up).

In the past week, we’ve seen Brooks Koepka and Peter Kostis bring up the situation in separate interviews. Koepka stated how he absolutely believes that Reed cheated and that he had to know what he was doing. Former CBS broadcaster, Peter Kostis, dropped a bombshell as he claimed that he’s seen Reed attempt to strengthen his lie on four occasions, at least.

With the media once again picking up the story  and Reed playing this week at the WGC-Mexico, he has an opportunity to respond. Reed explained he did not have any response to the comments, stating,”Not really. I mean, I said what I have to say about what happened in the Bahamas, and at the end of the day, all I’m trying to do is go out and play good golf and trying to win a golf championship and hopefully run Rory down.”

The media tried to follow up by asking if he was bothered by the continued attention brought to this issue, however, the PGA TOUR media officials ended all questions. As many thought, even months ago, Reed’s refusal to admit any wrongdoing has turned this situation into a much bigger story than it needed to be. If he were just to take on responsibility for the mistake, all of this would likely go away, or at least go away faster than it is now.

As for Reed’s performance in Mexico, as of this writing he is sitting six shots back of the lead. While he’s certainly in contention, no matter how well he does this weekend, the story is likely going to be about this incident and will continue to be for as long as people are willing to criticize him.
