EQUIPMENT: Vokey WedgeWorks Releases M Grind Collection

One of the most interesting aspects of every WITB is the wedge setup. Why? Because there’s so many endless combinations of lofts, grinds and custom stamping obtains. And with respect to grind options, Vokey has some of the widest variety of Tour-proven grinds to help golfers of all skill levels tackle every course condition imaginable.

And to help make sure there’s a grind for even the most extreme conditions, Titleist is releasing Master Craftsman Bob Vokey’s “most favorite” grind – the M Grind – is now available in 50°, 52° and 54° lofts through WedgeWorks.

Previously only available on Vokey SM8 sand and lob wedges (56º through 62º), the M Grind is designed for players that like to rotate the club face open and closed to manufacture shots around the green.

Indeed, the M grind features a medium-bounce design featuring a full crescent heel, toe and trailing edge sole grind for players looking for versatility in a gap wedge for playing in firm, sandy conditions.

The medium-bounce grind is ideal for players with a shallower, more sweeping swing type who like to play shots with a variety of club face positions and manipulate ball flight.

Unsurprisingly, the M Grind can be found in someone’s bag on the Tour, as is currently being played by Cameron Smith, Patrick Cantlay and Charles Howell III.

“The grind in the back allows you to open up the wedge and get under the ball a little easier, while the front of the wedge allows you to get out and produce that lower, stronger ball flight,” said Aaron Dill, Vokey Tour Representative.

The M Grind collection is available for custom order in golf shops and through Vokey.com, and can be had in 50°, 52° and 54° lofts (right hand only) in the tour-preferred Raw finish. Ordering through WedgeWorks also allows for custom options, including:

  • Six unique toe engravings;
  • Expanded stamping options: 10-character Straight/Freestyle; 15 characters around toe;
  • 5-character staircase style; and
  • Custom paint-filled Loft and Grind markings and BV Wings logo.

And for those wondering what makes the M-Grind Vokey’s “favorite”, I strongly suggest listening to The Golf Podcast Episode 308 with Bob Vokey, during which he explains the full-fledge, non-PG version story.  But for those with innocent ears around, the M-Grind took Vokey ~2 hours to hand grind a single wedge, making it a real pain in the backside compared to the others and, thus, Vokey’s Most Favorite wedge.

Fast forward to 18 minutes in for the full story from Bob Vokey himself.
