Ernie Els Loves Wrestling People On His Private Jet

Ernie Els is serving as the captain of the International Team in the Presidents Cup this week, which reminded of one of the funniest stories I have heard about a pro golfer.

So the story was told on Spittin Chiclets and goes like this:

Els is playing in a tournament in Japan. Steve Marino is also playing and was invited by Els to fly back on his private jet to Florida after the tourney. Both guys get hammered and Marino recalls that he was having the time of his life, it being his first time ever on a private jet. And then… Els walks up to Marino and asks “you having a good time?”, in which Marino tells him he is, suddenly Els says “Now we fight.” and then HEADBUTTS Marino! They tumble to the ground and continue to fight until the Co-Pilot comes out screaming “Ernie not again! You guys are shaking the plane, you have to stop!” (So apparently this isn’t the first time Els has done this.)

The two are split up and sent to opposite ends of the plane. Marino is covered in blood, missing a tooth, and sitting there wondering what the hell just happened. He eventually dozes off, but is woke up to Els towering over him and then Els SOCKS him in the face. Again, the Pilots break it up and Marino couldn’t be more confused. Eventually they make it to their destination and Marino grabs his bags and heads to exit of the plane. He sees Els waiting for him at the bottom of the stairs and immediately thinks he is waiting there for round 3 on the tarmac. He walks down the stairs only for Els to say “Great flight Steve, see you around!”

You hear a story like that and think no way that can be true… Welp, it is and Els confirmed it on a podcast with the No Laying Up crew. Here is what Els said himself:

“We had a lot to drink. There was a lot to talk about, and we kind of hugged each other. It was a lovefest on the airplane. Nobody got seriously injured,” he continued. “It was all in good fun. It’s just what guys do and there’s a lot of testosterone running.

He was laughing when he emphasized “hugged each other”.  Els is a loose cannon when you get the beers flowing in his private jet apparently, who would a thought.
