Fantasy Golf Picks, Odds, and Predictions for the 2025 Genesis Scottish Open
2025 Genesis Scottish Open Fantasy Preview
In amongst modern golf’s obsession with clubhead speed and distance, a common truth has been forgotten: if you can hit woods, irons, and wedges to an elite standard, and hole a few putts, you can still compete on the PGA TOUR at certain courses. Step forward Brian Campbell, who ranks dead last on the PGA TOUR for Driving Distance – that’s 164th, to be precise, with his average drive of 276.6 yards approximately 52 yards shorter than Aldrich Potgieter’s, who ironically won two weeks ago.
At the John Deere Classic, it was Campbell who prevailed. He peppered fairways and greens (ranking 11th and fifth for Driving Accuracy and GIR), chipped well (tenth for SG: Around-the-Green), and made plenty of putts (sixth for SG: Putting).
You won’t be surprised to learn that he was the shortest off the tee, too, but at TPC Deere Run that hasn’t historically mattered. Campbell still needed a playoff to best Emiliano Grillo, but par on the first extra hole was enough to secure his second PGA TOUR title of the season, following February’s triumph at the Mexico Open. Hitting bombs off the tee? Well, maybe it isn’t all it’s cracked up to be…
The PGA TOUR now embarks on its two-week Links Swing, starting with the Scottish Open at the Renaissance Club before culminating in the fourth and final major of the year, the British Open.
Last Week’s Fantasy Results
Last week’s shining star was our Tuesday Sleeper Report pick Emiliano Grillo who finished the week in solo 2nd. Along with Grillo, Denny McCarthy was another winning pick with his T11 finish out in Silvis, Illinois.
Overall, we missed a couple to the cut but in the end, we did not have Brin Campbell on the roster, which limited the cash rake this week.
The 2025 Genesis Scottish Open Field
The penny has dropped: the Scottish Open is key prep prior to the British Open. So that’s why eight members of the OWGR top-ten are heading to Berwick this week, with Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy taking headline honors. They will be joined by Xander Schauffele, Justin Thomas, and Collin Morikawa, to name just a few.
Robert MacIntyre, who won this event last year after finishing second in 2023, returns to his homeland to defend, while other Brits such as Tommy Fleetwood and Justin Rose will be hoping to emulate the Scot.Last year’s Scottish Open runner up, Adam Scott, and former British Open champion Brian Harman are just some of the others in the field with impeccable Links golf credentials.
This Week’s Course Preview
British and Irish Links golf courses are typically beholden to the weather; in tough conditions, they can become a minefield. But on warmer, low breeze days, they can be tamed. One track that delivers on that front is the Renaissance Club, home to the Scottish Open. In 2022, Xander Schauffele won here with a score of -7. In 2023, just five players reached double digits under par.
But last year, in benign conditions, the Renaissance Club relented. The winning score was -18, with as many as 33 players reaching double digits under par. So, as far as profiling the course is concerned, really it’s what’s happening overhead that’s important; as opposed to that on the ground.
The Renaissance Club features quintessential Links holes and also more inland holes, where trees help to keep some of the wind at bay. The track can measure between 7,162 and 7,237 yards, with tee boxes moved according to the weather, but what won’t change is the Par 70 routing – there’s five Par 3s and three Par 5s on the property.
Nine holes averaged over par in 2024, with the five hardest holes all Par 4s measuring 475 yards or longer. Indeed, the toughest hole last year – the 505-yard Par 4 seventh –used to be a Par 5. Otherwise, the other nine holes scored better than par on average, with the trio of Par 5s amongst the easiest assignments alongside the drivable Par 4 fifth, which measures 338 yards.
Weather Forecast for North Berwick, Scotland
Much of the UK is going to be hit by a heatwave this week, and by Berwick standards temperatures of up to 72 degrees really are heady days for the area. The good news for the players is that it looks as though the rain will stay away too, as per the early forecast, while wind speeds could top out at 11mph.
Of course, these coastal conditions in the UK are so unique that all of these predictions can very quickly go out of the window, but by all accounts it looks as though the Scottish Open will play out in very agreeable climes this week.
Last Year’s Results from the Genesis Scottish Open
When reflecting on the 2023 edition of the Scottish Open, we wrote that it would ‘bring the house down’ if home favorite Robert MacIntyre landed the win. He didn’t, with Rory McIlroy pooping the party, but fast forward 12 months and the Scotland crowd got the home victory they craved.
In an easier renewal of the event than has been typical, MacIntyre did things the hard way after finding himself T34 after the opening round – five shots behind the leader, Justin Thomas. A Friday 65 closed the gap to four, before MacIntyre pressed down on the accelerator over the weekend – an outstanding 63 seeing the Scot into solo second with a round to play, two strokes behind Ludvig Aberg.
Adam Scott made seven birdies on Sunday to get into contention, and with Aberg struggling it was all eyes on MacIntyre, whose front nine was uninspiring. But on the closing stretch, the Scot caught fire – making birdie at 14 and eagle at 16. The trophy was still up for grabs until MacIntyre birdied the final hole to beat Scott by one stroke and send the Scottish fans home very happy indeed.
Where to Play Fantasy Golf for this Week’s the 2025 Genesis Scottish Open
Edges aren’t always that easy to find when playing PGA TOUR DFS, but the Links Swing does afford opportunities to those who understand which players are comfortable in these unique British conditions.
With that in mind, here’s a pair of contests to target this week:
- GOLF TOUR $250k Drive the Green: Let’s get things underway with a regular favorite. At $5 a turn, there’s opportunities to run some lineup variations without breaking the bank, while eyeing the potential of some sizable payouts – not least the $50k top prize.
- GOLF TOUR $800k Summer Sand Trap: Those considering a single silver bullet can look to this $25 entry game, which comes with risk attached but also the possibility of some fine rewards – the $200k top prize the headline act of many sizable payouts up for grabs.
This Week’s Fantasy Notes for the 2025 Genesis Scottish Open
If you want to keep things simple this week, an examination of each players’ Links form is as strong a starting point as any. Since the Scottish Open became a co-sanctioned event between the PGA TOUR and DP World Tour in 2022, two of its winners have been British Open champions and the other, MacIntyre, has T6 and T8 finishes to his name in the fourth major of the year.
Some players love Links golf, others don’t, although it should be said that the in-land holes at the Renaissance Club are less exposed to the conditions – hence the lower scoring in a softer set-up last year.
Quality drivers of the golf ball generally fare well here – MacIntyre, McIlroy and Xander Schauffele are in the winner’s circle, with Adam Scott and Kurt Kitayama as runners up, while effective chipping and scrambling will still be key even if the GIR count creeps up above 70%. There’s not a great deal of mystery when profiling the Scottish Open; hopefully using the parameters detailed here will allow for a profitable roster build.

Top 5 Picks/Odds to Win the 2025 Genesis Scottish Open
Top Tier Pick # 1
Tommy Fleetwood (Odds: 22/1, FPPG: 73.2, Salary: $9,900)
Last seen snatching defeat from the jaws of victory at the Travelers Championship, Tommy Fleetwood once again saw a PGA TOUR title slip from his grasp.
He’s finished within four shots of the leader in three of his last six PGA TOUR starts, which suggests he’s not merely knocking on the door but attempting to smash through it.
Maybe the breakthrough will come at the Renaissance Club, where Fleetwood’s recent record – 34-6-4-26-2 – is enough to suggest that it’s here, as much as anywhere, that he’s as liable to land that elusive maiden PGA TOUR title.
Few in this field are as well equipped for Links golf as Fleetwood… can he finally get his hands on a trophy outside of the DP World Tour?
Key Stats:
- Scoring Average (adjusted) – 3rd
- SG: Tee-to-Green – 5th
- Putts Per Round – 23rd
Top Tier Pick #2
Ludvig Aberg (Odds: 30/1, FPPG: 62.7, Salary: $9,400)
An ‘easy’ renewal of the Scottish Open will please Ludvig Aberg plenty.
The Swede is a sublime long-range ball striker and a reliable enough putter, when things are going to plan. His chipping, on the other hand, is something of a weakness.
But a Renaissance Club in benign conditions won’t test that skillset as much as it might be next week at Royal Portrush, so Aberg can return to Berwick with real aspirations of another PGA TOUR title.
With a two-shot lead heading into the final round last year, Aberg had a 61% chance of lifting the trophy after ten holes, as per DataGolf. He really ought to have won… surely he won’t make the same mistake again if in contention on Sunday.
Key Stats:
- Proximity to Hole – 12th
- SG: Off-the-Tee – 13th
- Par 4 Birdie or Better Leaders – 20th
Mid-Tier Pick #1
Ryan Fox (Odds: 60/1, FPPG: 70.6, Salary: $8,500)
Finishes of T4, T6, and T12 at the Renaissance Club set the scene for a player delivering the best golf of his life right now.
Since mid-May, Ryan Fox has won two PGA TOUR titles (the Myrtle Beach Classic and Canadian Open), banked a pair of top-30 finishes at the PGA Championship and U.S. Open, and fared admirably in Signature Events, too.
The New Zealander’s game is in the best shape of his life, so ahead of a return to a favored layout – and he’s a former winner of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, as well – Fox has to be in bullish mood.
Key Stats:
- Scoring Average (adjusted) – 10th
- SG: Putting – 20th
- SG: Tee-to-Green – 37th
Mid-Tier Pick #2
Thomas Detry (Odds: 80/1, FPPG: 62.2, Salary: $7,800)
After winning their maiden PGA TOUR title, some players kick on into a new stratosphere. As for Thomas Detry… well, not so much.
In fact, in 14 appearances, the Belgian’s best effort is T18.
But even so, there’s some reasons to be optimistic about a player that may be underpriced this week. In his penultimate outing at the U.S. Open, Detry delivered a tee-to-green masterclass, gaining +2.43 strokes on the field per round, on average, with his ball striking alone.
Four top-ten finishes in his last five trips to the Renaissance Club, including T2 and T10 turns, add to the good vibes.
Key Stats:
- Fairway Proximity – 35th
- SG: Putting – 36th
- Scoring Average (adjusted) – 56th
Low-Tier Pick
Nick Taylor (Odds: 90/1, FPPG: 69.3, Salary: $7,600)
Occasionally, conditions in Canada are not all that dissimilar to those in Scotland, so it’s perhaps not a surprise that Nick Taylor has a solid record at the Renaissance Club.
Ok, so a formline of 55-19-57 doesn’t scream red hot form, but the Canadian has played a handful of low rounds that were far better than the day’s scoring average – if he can connect a few this time around, he can be a danger.
A recent formline of 17-23-13-4-MC-17, which includes three Signature Events and a major, suggests that Taylor returns to Scotland with plenty of confidence.
Key Stats:
- SG: Approach – 11th
- Greens in Regulation – 17th
- Driving Accuracy – 21st
Sleeper Pick for the 2025 Genesis Scottish Open
Victor Perez (Odds: 125/1, FPPG: 57.9, Salary: $7,200)
Although two poor efforts at the John Deere Classic and Rocket Classic catch the eye, it should be said that Victor Perez is at his best in tougher assignments.
That much was evidenced by his T19 at the U.S. Open, which was a performance of elite ball striking and followed T9 at the Canadian Open just prior.
The Frenchman has had a solid season on the PGA TOUR without necessarily breaking through, but back on European soil Perez can take another leap forward.
A former winner of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, Perez loves these conditions – T10 at last year’s Scottish Open offering a glimpse of his possibilities this week.
Key Stats:
- Driving Accuracy – 29th
- SG: Approach – 34th
- SG: Putting – 35th
Alternative Sleeper Pick for the 2025 Genesis Scottish Open
Jorge Campillo (Odds: 450/1, FPPG: 58.1, Salary: $6,500)
There could well be juice in drafting a DP World Tour player as our second sleeper pick given that many DFS gamers will favor the PGA TOUR regulars this week.
Although Jorge Campillo didn’t show his best during his brief stint on the PGA TOUR, with T4 at the Myrtle Beach Classic his finest effort, the Spaniard has found his feet back on European soil.
Finishes of T2 and T7 within his last six starts are indicative of that, and with a previous top-ten to his name at the Renaissance Club, Campillo heads for a track he must enjoy with good form in his rear view mirror.
