Fantasy Golf Picks, Odds, and Predictions for the Wyndham Championship
Wyndham Championship Fantasy Preview
When an elite ball-striker like Collin Morikawa works out how to drop some putts consistently, you know everyone else in golf is in trouble.
The 23-year-old won the first major of an already stellar young career on Sunday, taking down the PGA Championship from a stacked leaderboard that featured proven major champions and fearless young guns with whom Morikawa could be dueling for years to come.
Six players were tied for the lead at one point on a chaotic Sunday, but small margins are often the difference in golf and it was Morikawa’s drive on sixteen – taking on the green with driver and nailing it to just seven feet away – that set up his third PGA TOUR victory in just his 29th start.
For a young Californian to win his first major on home soil must have been an incredible feeling, but make no mistake Morikawa isn’t done yet – he’ll be eyeing a very deep run into the FedExCup playoffs too.
But it’s onwards we go with the final regular season event of the year – the Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield Country Club. Who will play their way into form ahead of the business end of the campaign.
Last Week’s Fantasy Results
Morikawa with a Paul Casey/DJ kicker proved to be the winning trifecta for the big game on Draftkings. We unfortunately fell short when Brooks effectively packed it in on Sunday and the Xander bet (T10) wasn’t a big enough finish to make a splash in the pot.
There is no question TPC Harding Park was a shot makers’ course with accuracy being key. And accordingly it makes sense that our Key Stats Tool had Collin as the highest ranked player in accuracy in the mid-tier salary range.
This tool is a great way to narrow your search within certain key stats within a certain salary range.
2020 Wyndham Championship Field
Brooks Koepka, who made few friends at the PGA Championship with some caustic remarks about his fellow pros, will be looking to win just his third non-major and WGC tournament of his career.
He will face a tough test though, with the ‘king of Sedgefield’ Webb Simpson looking to build on his fine record here. The 2011 champion has also finished second twice, and has a third and three other top-10 finishes to his name.
Paul Casey, Justin Rose and Tommy Fleetwood will be looking to build on the encouraging form they showed at TPC Harding Park last time out, while other champions at Sedgefield such as Patrick Reed, Sergio Garcia and Brandt Snedeker will be hoping to go in again at a favorite old haunt.
This Week’s Course Preview
Following the complexities of the PGA Championship and the difficulty of the FedExCup playoffs to come, there’s something of a jolly to the east coast feel about Sedgefield Country Club.
Nestled in Greensboro, North Carolina, Sedgefield was designed originally by Donald Ross, although this layout doesn’t boast the same challenge as many of his their properties, including TOUR Championship host East Lake.
Instead, Sedgefield plays rather nicely, with the average winning score here around the -21 mark in the past five years. There’s nothing particularly unique or interesting about this layout, truth be told, and given the benign weather forecast it could again yield to a low-scoring shootout.
The Par 70 layout measures 7,127 yards and features a pair of characterless Par 5s, and so Par 4 scoring becomes an obvious angle of attack on the east coast.
There’s minimal rough, just five water hazards on the whole property and few bunkers to speak of, and with wind predictions pretty manageable there is absolutely nothing to trouble the players. Even the smaller-than-average Bermuda greens are easy enough to hold.
Weather Forecast for Greensboro, NC
To say that there’s consensus in the weather forecast for Greensboro would be a huge understatement – from Tuesday to Sunday, the tag is ‘scattered thunderstorms’ every single day!
While trying to accurately predict the timing and ferocity of a thunderstorm is a fool’s errand, what we can say with some certainty is that it will rain at some point in Greensboro this week, and that will help to slow the Bermuda greens down even further.
It’s warm – 86-89°F is the likely spread of temperatures – but there’s unlikely to be much sun around, and the wind speeds look set to be around the 7-9 mph mark.
Last Year’s Results for Wyndham Championship
It was wet at Sedgefield Country Club a year ago, and that enabled JT Poston to record some eye-watering statistics on his way to a maiden PGA TOUR title.
Poston, who was raised barely an hour from Greensboro, hit 80% of fairways and 86% of greens in regulation to become the first player in nearly 50 years to win a PGA TOUR title without making a bogey or worse.
A final round of 62 saw ‘the Postman’ power his way up the leaderboard and trump another North Carolinan, Webb Simpson, who shot no worse than 65 across the four days. A trio of talented youngsters – Viktor Hovland, Byeong Hun An and Si-Woo Kim – rounded out the top five.
Where to Play Fantasy Golf for Wyndham Championship this Week
With this event acting as the filling in the sandwich between a major and the start of the FedEx Cup playoffs, you might have expected the DFS sites to take their foot off the gas. But no – this is a varied slate with plenty of highlights.
- PGA $1.75M Playoff Preview: There’s a handsome $500k top prize in this contest, and the first 1000 players home will bank at least $1000 – not bad for a $25 entry. Multi-entry is set at 150 teams.
- PGA $350k Driver: It’s a tough week to get a clear narrative and with a weak field, the Wyndham represents something of a headscratcher. So why not chance your arm in this single entry contest in which the winner takes home $100k!
This Week’s Fantasy Notes for Wyndham Championship
Typically speaking, length off the tee is not an advantage at Sedgefield with Brandt Snedeker and Davis Love III winning here within the last five years.
What those champions tell us is that a bit of short game mastery is required, and that’s perhaps not surprising given that the wind can whip up here and the Bermuda greens are smaller than average.
But this year’s forecast, with a benign breeze and some rain around, suggests that Sedgefield will play softer and slower – instead, that will lend itself to quality ball-strikers who can make some putts in taking the spoils.
Nearly all of the holes are straight with minimal doglegging, and with hazards at an absolute minimum as well really we’re expecting a low-scoring shootout where the hottest putter – charged by the most precise iron play – will prevail.

Top 5 Picks/Odds to Win Wyndham Championship
Top Tier Pick:
Paul Casey (Odds: 18/1, FPPG: 67.8, GPFP: 75.92 Salary: $10,300)
It’s a curious situation at the top of the shop for the Wyndham Championship.
Do you want to take a chance on an injured Brooks Koepka? His knee is clearly causing him issues, and while he had motivation to play through the pain barrier as he attempted a PGA Championship three-peat, can we say the same about the Wyndham?
Do you want to pay top money for Webb Simpson or Tommy Fleetwood, both of whom hold appeal but whose approach play is below their baseline standard at present?
Patrick Reed is of interest but he would surely prefer Sedgefield to be running fast and dry so that his short game can really come to the fore.
A $10,300 Paul Casey is not everybody’s idea of a party, but he was in superb form at the PGA Championship – arguably striking the ball as well as anybody. The switch to the east coast and Bermuda will suit him too, and the Englishman’s record at this venue – 13-3-18 – suggests that it suits his eye perfectly.
Key Stats:
- Total Driving – 2nd
- SG: Approach – 3rd
- Greens In Regulation – 10th
Top-Tier Pick #2:
Brendon Todd (Odds: 35/1, FPPG: 67.0, GPFP: 71.69 Salary: $8,900)
It seems almost a given these days that when you’re looking at the latest leaderboard for a live event Brendon Todd will be there or thereabouts.
Aside from his two wins this season, Todd could have triumphed in the Travelers Championship, he was close to the summit at the Memorial Tournament, he opened 64-65 at the WGC St Jude and was T1 after 18 holes at the PGA Championship.
Todd will be hitting from the fairway more often than not, and his game is all about accumulating chances for his outstanding putting stroke to shine – at the easy Sedgefield, he should have plenty of those.
Key Stats:
- SG: Putting – 23rd
- Driving Accuracy – 3rd
- Par 4 Birdie or Better Leaders – 25th
Mid-Tier Pick #1:
Kevin Kisner (Odds: 55/1, FPPG: 61.2, GPFP: 73.40 Salary: $8,300)
A trip to the east coast is always going to be welcomed by the South Carolinan Kevin Kisner, who tends to thrive when golf courses are laid to Bermuda as you would expect from someone of his geography.
Finding fairways is rarely a problem for one of the most accurate drivers around, but typically it’s his approach play that let’s Kisner down – it’s always worth keeping an eye out for improvements in that department.
And perhaps that came at the PGA Championship – in tough conditions, he gained +1.22 with his irons, so maybe the feel is coming back into Kisner’s game.
He putts well wherever he goes, so if Kisner can continue his iron game improvement then he should go very nicely this week.
Key Stats:
- Scrambling – 19th
- SG: Putting – 25th
- Driving Accuracy – 35th
Mid-Tier Pick #2:
Lanto Griffin (Odds: 100/1, FPPG: 64.3, GPFP: 51.40 Salary: $7,400)
A really solid all-round player, it’s no big surprise that Lanto Griffin has won in each of the last two seasons – on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2019 and at the Houston Open earlier this year.
He seems to particularly thrive at courses where he holsters the big stick for a while, although there are holes at Sedgefield where bomb-and-gouge can be an effective strategy.
A PGA TOUR winner who ranks inside the top-40 players in the world for SG: Putting, Griffin is definitely one to watch on the back of a T19 finish at the PGA Championship.
Key Stats:
- Scrambling – 15th
- SG: Putting – 40th
- Scoring Average – 50th
Low-Tier Pick:
Tom Hoge (Odds: 200/1, FPPG: 52.6, GPFP: 47.38 Salary: $6,500)
A $6,500 salary for a North Carolinan who played solidly in a major last time out? Don’t mind if we do.
A lack of length won’t penalize Hoge here, and his approach play is typically excellent – if the rain does soften the greens, we’d expect his proximity to the hole to be outstanding if he’s hitting out of the short grass.
A reliable putter who gained +1.02 strokes on the green at the PGA Championship, Hoge can really shine in weak-field events where his iron game is at a premium.
Key Stats:
- SG: Approach – 28th
- SG: Putting – 79th
- Driving Accuracy – 82nd
Sleeper Pick for Wyndham Championship
Bud Cauley (Odds: 100/1, FPPG: 54.1, GPFP: 43.29 Salary: $7,200)
It’s been a mixed bag for Bud Cauley since the resumption of golf, but he remains one of the finest second shot players around – ranking inside the top-50 players on the PGA TOUR for Strokes Gained on Approach and Around-the-Green.
His short game in particular was in excellent order at TPC Harding Park, where he opened with a round of 66 and hung around the top 30/40 for the rest of the week.
A player who has never quite cashed in on his undoubted talent, Cauley is versatile in how he approaches his game and he can succeed at a venue where he has banked a pair of top-10s in the past.
Key Stats:
- SG: Around-the-Green – 20th
- Scoring Average – 36th
- SG: Approach – 47th
Alternative Sleeper Pick for Wyndham Championship
Jason Kokrak (Odds: 150/1, FPPG: 48.1, GPFP: 38.52 Salary: $6,900)
While Jason Kokrak has not lived up to the expectations levelled at him, this is a classy operator who acts as the perfect sleeper pick at this sort of salary point.
A proven performer on Bermuda, Kokrak is a much better player than his current form suggests, and his T3 at the Charles Schwab Challenge suggested he had found some rhythm in his swing during lockdown.
He hasn’t followed up, however, although a decent first round of 69 at the PGA Championship offers some hope for a revival.
In short, Kokrak would have been about $8,000 in this event a year ago – he just needs to find that sort of form to completely outperform his meagre salary here.
Key Stats:
- SG: Off-the-Tee – 10th
- Approaches from 100-125 yards – 58th
- Greens in Regulation – 81st
