Meet the New and Improved Titleist Tour Soft

As we kick off the new year news comes pouring in about the new and improved golf products set to release for the upcoming season. And in that vein, Titleist has just announced that their engineers have put the largest core ever produced by them into the Tour Soft golf ball.  And as such, players who prefer a soft feeling ball are going to love these improvements:

  • Titleist’s largest golf ball core is now even larger, delivering faster ball speeds for category-leading distance off the tee.
  • The larger core size required engineers to make Tour Soft’s high performance 4CE grafted cover system even thinner, producing increased short game spin around the green.
  • Enhanced aerodynamics – a new spherically-tiled 342 cuboctahedron dimple design, which essentially provides a more penetrating ball flight.
  • Doubling as an alignment aid, the new Tour Soft “T” sidestamp provides golfers the option for easy alignment on the tee or green.

Titleist’s owned-and-operated Ball Plant 2, as our team witnessed, ensures consistent performance and quality in single ball and I have no doubt about that.

Be on the lookout because the new Titleist Tour Soft will be available in golf shops worldwide beginning Jan. 22 at $34.99 a dozen.

Hello Titleist Velocity, Nice to Meet You

Velocity_dozen_white_facing+rightTitleist also announced that the Velocity has gone under a complete overhaul. Every component of the new Titleist Velocity golf ball has been engineered for maximum velocity (see what we did there?) including new aerodynamic and core technologies which has made this ball even longer. Yes, even longer.
Hat’s off to Titleist’s R & D department who worked along with real golfer feedback to design the new innovations that went into the 2020 Velocity model. Those changes include:

  • The invention of a –spherically-tiled 350 octahedral dimple designwhich in my pea-brain means, this ball has been designed to produces a more consistent high-flying trajectory for longer distance – which is something I crave in my golf game! Show me any golfer that wouldn’t want that please; I’ll wait.
  • They added a larger, higher speed LSX core which generates fast initial velocity to aid with low spin on full swing shots so that we can squeeze out every inch of distance out there!
  • What I also learned is that the increased core size adds spin so that we can get our approach shots to stop on a dime.

“Velocity golfers love distance, and they never stop asking us for more yards,” said recent Golf Podcast guest Michael Mahoney, Vice President, Titleist Golf Ball Marketing.

“But we know they’re also trying to shoot lower scores, and distance is only one part of that equation. The advancements our engineers have made to Velocity’s aerodynamics package and high-speed core technology are meaningful. Golfers can take aim from farther away – confident that if they put a good swing on it, they’ll have the extra distance to reach the green with the ball flight to stop it there.”Velocity_white_ball_sidestampWhat also has me excited about this ball is the new matte color options. I started playing with a colored ball last year in the fall and I felt it made a big difference for me. I could actually see the damn thing, but color options have always been notoriously limited. This year Titleist has introduced a wide variety of options for the Velocity featuring a high optic, vibrant matte finish.

Golfers can now choose from Matte Pink (play numbers #1-4), Matte Green (#00-11-22-33), and Matte Orange (#00-11-22-33), in addition to standard white (#1-4).

If you think I won’t play a pink ball, you’re wrong…Velocity_ball_pink_nameplateIf you want to get your hands on some colored balls to match your personality you can pick up a dozen of the 2020 Titleist Velocity balls in golf shops worldwide beginning Jan. 22, 2020 with a price tag of $27.99.

Ed started playing golf when he was 18. It started out as a hobby and something he liked to do but by 2014 it had turned into a full blown obsession. Since then Ed has committed himself to improving and learning more about the game.
