FORE! A Stray Bullet Hits Golfer in the Chest In Wisconsin

Literally, this is real life Caddyshack the movie.

This past week at The Golf Club at Camelot, an 80-year old man from Fond du Lac was playing a round when he was suddenly struck in the chest. He later realized that it was a bullet that had struck him and he was immediately taken to the hospital. Luckily for the man, the wounds were minor and he was quickly released from the hospital but the story of where the bullet came from is more interesting.

According to the police report, the shot came from a nearby residence. The man who shot the bullet wasn’t aiming anywhere near the golf course or the man. What he was actually aiming at was a groundhog that was on his property. Unfortunately, the man missed the groundhog, which resulted in the bullet ricocheting off of some trees and striking the golfer.

Here is the official statement from the sheriff’s office. “This incident remains under investigation and initially it appears that a 50-year-old Lomira man was attempting to shoot a woodchuck which was on his property. While attempting to do so, a bullet ricocheted off some trees striking an 80-year-old Fond du Lac man. The injury was non-life-threatening and he was transported by Theresa EMS to St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac where he was treated and is expected to be released.”

This story honestly sounds like something out of Caddyshack when that pesky groundhog is giving Bill Murray fits. Murray tried to blow up the thing though instead of shooting at it and surprisingly, that did less damage in the movie than this guy did in real life. And just like the movie, the police say that they have not located the groundhog in question.

Hopefully, this man won’t go around shooting at this groundhog next time he comes around for the safety of everyone around him. But now that everyone is ok after the incident, this looks like something that can be a great, light hearted story for both men to tell their friends.
