Fred Couples, 63, is the Oldest Player to Make the Cut at The Masters

It’s no secret that smooth-swinging Fred Couples still has loads of game. We saw a healthy dose of it at the SAS Championship last October, where he won by six shots shooting a final round 60.

Couples once again is showing his fine play at the ever-so-challenging Augusta National, which has been stricken with tough conditions. Fred made the cut with a nice cushion without issue and bettered his peer on the Champions Tour, Bernhard Langer, to be the new record holder.

Previously, Langer was the oldest player to make the cut at 63 years of age and 78 days, as he did so 2 years ago. Now, Fred has upped the ante by beating at 63 and 187 days old.

It is quite possible either one of these gentlemen may break the record come next year, as Langer only missed the cut by 2. Langer will be 66 in the 2024 Masters.

Couples admitted to the press that he is playing “really well.” His main objective was to compete against himself and make the cut at an older age.

Fred Couples now has added 31 made cuts at the Masters, which puts him in second place all-time. He only stands behind the Golden Bear, Jack Nicklaus, who has made a staggering 37 cuts.
