The dust hadn’t even yet settled on Team Europe’s Ryder Cup win before Rory McIlroy was making bold statements toward the next one.

McIlroy said during his McIlroy said during the post-match press conference:

“I’ve said this for the last probably six or seven years to anyone that will listen: I think one of the biggest accomplishments in golf right now is winning an away Ryder Cup. And that’s what we’re going to do at Bethpage.”

McIlroy was the top points scorer in this year’s edition, going 4-1-0 over the three days. His intensity after being a part of the 19-9 beating at the hands of the U.S. team two years ago also led him into a dust up with Joe LaCava, Patrick Cantlay’s caddy

Losing the Cup the way that they did two years ago lit a fire beneath the Northern Irishman. Since that loss, McIlroy won six times worldwide, including the FedEx Cup and DP World Tour titles in 2022.

Winning at Bethpage Black would certainly be an accomplishment. The last Ryder Cup won by the visiting team was at Medinah in 2012 when the Europeans were motivated by the recent death of Seve Ballesteros on their way to a 14.5-13.5 victory.

With this weekend’s loss, the United States team hasn’t won the Cup in Europe since 1993.
