With the 2012 PGA Tour season coming to a close, we are excited to present Golficity’s 2012 Golf Awards to the following players:

Golficity’s ‘On The Ball’ Award:  Brandt Snedeker

Brandt Snedeker 2012 PGA Tour FedEx CupBrandt Snedeker is one of the ‘smoothest’ guys on Tour.  Not only does he drain almost every putt he hits, but he’s the true representation of an upstanding family man and humanitarian.

The FedEx Cup Champion led the Tour in strokes gained from putting with an average of .860 and took home a nice trio of trophies, as well as nearly $15,000,000 dollars in winnings.  When asked what he will do with his Tour Championship/FedEx Cup winnings of $11.4 million, Brandt stated “I’m not by any means a flashy guy.” Snedeker still drives the same GMC Yukon Denali he bought over four years ago and has no plans to change. “Of anybody that I know, I do not need $11 million. So there are going to be things we can do to really help people. That’s the way I look at it. I really think we can make a difference and help a lot of people out in Nashville and Tennessee and the surrounding areas.”

Golficity’s ‘Top 10 Finish Veteran’ Award:  Rory McIlroy

Rory McilroyWe wanted to give this award to Bo Van Pelt with 10 Top-10s in 24 events, but couldn’t overlook Rory McIlroy’s 10 top-10s in only 16 events – which included 4 wins and a PGA Championship major victory.   Of McIlroy’s 10 Top-10s, he finished 1st 4 times, 2nd twice, and 3rd once.   When 70% of your Top-10 finishes are in the top 3, that’s a pretty darn good season.

Golficity’s ‘Biggest Surprise Player’ Award: Zach Johnson

Coming off of the 2011 season with 4 top 10 finishes and no PGA Tour wins,  Zach Johnson grabbed 2 this year and earned $4.4 million dollars, more then doubling his take home pay in 2011.  Johnson made 4 more cuts in just one more tournament played in 2011 and his game was ‘surprisingly’ in tune in 2012.   A participant in the 2012 Ryder Cup, Johnson had 4 top-2 finishes which was 4 more then 2011.  We all recall is amazing bunker shot in the playoff hole to win the John Deere Classic:

Golficity’s ‘Comeback Player of the Year’ Award: Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods - GolficityTalk about a come back, Tiger Woods earned $660,000 in 2011 in 9 events.  He made 7 cuts and only finished in the Top 10 twice, none of which were Top 3’s.  In 2012, Tiger reemerged to the PGA Tour with 19 events played, 17 cuts made, 9 Top-10 finishes including three wins, one 2nd place finish, and two 3rd place finishes.

Not that the career $100,950,700 dollar super star golfer needs anymore money, but Tiger did earn 10 times more of money from 2011 to 2012, finishing the year with $6.1 million and 3rd  place in the FedEx Cup.  Amazingly, Tiger has made 273 cuts out of 293 events in his career and missed 7 of 9 in 2011.  If anyone earns this award, it’s Tiger Woods.

Golficity’s Best Overall Player in 2012 AwardRory McIlroy

Rory McIlory Deutsche Bank ChampionshipRanked 1 in scoring average with a 68.873, and ranked overall No. 1 in the world with 4 wins in 2012 including a major and back-to-back wins in the FedEx Cup Playoffs, there is no doubt that Rory McIlroy is our 2012 Player of Year.

Although the 23-year old Northern Irishman has trouble distinguishing Eastern Standard Time from Central Standard Time, he was still the most dominant player on Tour this season.   Our “Top 10 Finish Veteran” winner is a young superstar with many dominant years ahead of him.

Hats off to Rory McIlroy for winning Golficity’s Best Overall Player in 2012 Award.
