Harold Varner III Wore A “Carolina Blue” Outfit After Losing a Bet With MJ
Harold Varner III is well known for wearing his favorite color out on the course. A color that he calls “the color of kings,” purple. Part of his love for the color purple comes from his alma mater East Carolina University. Varner is also a Jordan Brand athlete, but Michael Jordan famously went to the University of North Carolina.
Last weekend, the two friends decided to put a friendly little wager on the line for the Duke vs. UNC NCAA Final Four game. As we know, UNC won, meaning that Jordan won the bet. Varner showed up to the Par 3 Contest today in an all Carolina Blue outfit.

“I said I’d wear these shoes and [North] Carolina gear if Carolina beat Duke… And what do you know, something crazy happened.”
We’re all dying to know what the other side of the bet was. What would’ve happened if Duke won? What would MJ have had to do? I guess we’ll never know.
I love seeing side bets like this. It’s awesome when players show their personality and let us into their personal lives.
Hopefully, Varner’s luck will be better at the Masters this week than Duke’s luck on the basketball court last weekend.
