Harris English Wins First PGA TOUR Event at the 2013 FedEx St. Jude Classic

It’s by no coincidence that on the same weekend as the 145th running of the Belmont Stakes, our fantasy odds and predictions staff almost crossed the line with the perfect tri-fecta…that is until Harris English rounded the final leg and pulled ahead to win by a nose.  In his 44th event played on TOUR, English finally overcame the tough challenge of winning a Pro event by beating out 3 of our top 7 picks, including notables such as Phil Mickelson, Scott Stallings, and Ryan Palmer.

Harris birdied two of the final three holes to hold off Mickelson and Stallings by just two strokes.  The Georgia native pumped his fist in celebration as reality of winning  his first PGA TOUR event quickly set in.  The 500 FedExCup points are nice, and the $1 million dollar first prize is great, but few things are more exciting to a young golfer than scoring an invitation to the Masters.

“The main thing that I am looking forward to is playing the Masters next year,” English said. “Growing up in Georgia, I mean, that was the main tournament that I always watched and went to when I was a kid. The invitation to the Masters is going to be very special and special for my family because they’ve put a lot of hard work and a lot of time to get me where I am.”
