These Three Big PGA TOUR Names Laid an Egg at the FedEx St. Jude Championship
The first round of the FedEx Cup Playoffs takes place in Memphis at TPC Southwind as the FedEx St. Jude Championship lets the Top 70 players duel it out for a Top 50 spot, qualifying them for the BMW Championship.
However, golf is a cruel game, and the Top 50 players who will tee it up in Denver this week at Castle Pines Golf Club were not necessarily the Top 50 at last week’s FedEx St. Jude.
In fact, the bottom three players at last week’s event in Memphis might surprise you.
Max Homa
It was not Max Homa’s week. He finished dead last, +11, and looking at his statistics, you can see why:

Homa ranked dead last in Strokes Gained Off the Tee, losing over 6.5 strokes throughout the course of the tournament. He was 68th in Approach, 50th Around the Green, 57th in Putting, and last in total.
His best statistical performance? 19th in Feet of Putts made, with 76 feet.
Rory McIlroy
Rory McIlroy’s biggest highlight of the week was his longest drive of 356 yards, tied for seventh-longest in Memphis. He also gained nearly two strokes around the green, good enough for 13th.
However, 65th, 61st, and 69th in Strokes Gained Off the Tee, Approach, and Putting, respectively, subdued any chance of a good week for the Northern Irishman. He only found 44 greens all weekend, putting him in the bottom half of the field.
According to Rick Gehman, it was the 2nd worst driving display of his career, the 21st-worst approach performance, and 3rd-worst putting performance:
Rory McIlroy just finished the FedEx St Jude Championship with the ….

It was not Rory’s week. He finished +9, tied with the person we’re about to talk about.
Jordan Spieth
Admittedly, the 2015 Masters Champion has been battling a horrible wrist injury for some time, and he will finally have it repaired after missing the Top 50 and not qualifying for the BMW Championship this weekend.
Spieth’s putting and short game have both been his biggest strengths throughout his career, but neither one was on display at all this weekend, and to be frank, this year hasn’t been a good display of his finesse.
He ranked 70th in Approach, 67th Around the Green, 53rd in Putting, and 68th in Total Strokes Gained. He found just 40 greens this weekend in four rounds.
Spieth will undergo wrist surgery soon.
The old Jordan was fun. We want the old Jordan back:
