I’m Done With Tiger Woods

This morning, on the first day of “Tiger Week,” I wrote a short piece about the what-ifs of Tiger’s return to competitive golf.  How it could be the beginning of what we would someday call “Tiger’s Second Run.”  A run in which he would compete against the new breed of golfers.  Those that were inspired to play the game by “Tiger’s First Run.”  This was it.  This was going to be the last “comeback,” because he was finally going to return to the form that made, not just the golf world, but the entire world, stop and pay attention.

It was optimistic, it was exciting, and it was the last one I’ll ever write.

I just can’t do it anymore.

I’m tired of seeing report after report on Twitter, seeing Tim Rosaforte break news of a withdrawal once again on Golf Channel, or yet another quote from Notah Begay explaining why Tiger has pulled out of another tournament.

I’m done with it.  All of it.

If he plays again someday, great. If he doesn’t, fine.  But no longer will I be filled with anticipation of a Tiger Woods return.  In fact, even competing in his first event appearance, like his own Hero World Challenge, which is apparently still a possibility for his return, won’t get me excited about anything.

Show me over three months of a season, Tiger.  Show me at the first Major of the year.  Prove to me that you’re really back.

Until then, I’m out.

When do you think Tiger will return?  Weigh in on our Twitter poll here:

Kris became obsessed with the game of golf after deciding to finally hang up his baseball cleats about four years ago. Still learning the game, he’s leaned on much of the on-line golf community for help and loves to return the favor whenever possible. A contributor to several golf sites in the past, Kris writes from the perspective of your average golfer. One who has a passion for the game, but also has the typical restrictions of life and budget.
