Jake Knapp is officially the holder of the 15th PGA TOUR round that was scored below 60 on Thursday during the first round of the Cognizant Classic.

It is now the course record at PGA National.

Knapp fired a bogey-free 59 that was nearly a 58, as he narrowly missed an 18-and-a-half-footer for Eagle on the Par 5 18th. The last 58 was shot by Jim Furyk at the 2016 Travelers Championship.

It was truly an incredible round of golf to watch that was met with some of the most ideal conditions a player could ask for. You got the sense something special was going to happen after Knapp birdied the first five holes of his day. He rounded out the front nine with a birdie on the ninth.

He fired a 30 on the back nine that was finished off with a 335-yard drive on 18 and 200 yards left on his approach. His two-putt birdie secured the 59 and gave him a four shot lead at the end of his round.

Knapp’s first round broke the scoring record for the tournament, which was 61, set by Brian Harman in 2012. This is his second time playing the Cognizant, as he finished T4 last year at -13.
