John Daly Ranks Four Presidential Golfers He’s Played With
U.S. Presidents playing golf is a tradition that dates back to at least Dwight Eisenhower in the 1950s and they have all left their mark on the game. Speaking of Eisenhower, Augusta had a tree named after him for how many times he hit it with his shot.
But while the golf habits of Presidents are known, not much is talked about their skill level. One PGA TOUR pro is changing that, however.
The always exciting John Daly in an interview this week decided to rank the skill level of all the Presidents that he has played with. He also described some of their habits on the course.
In his lifetime, Daly has only had the opportunity to play golf with George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Donald Trump. Not playing with Obama won’t give a us a comprehensive ranking of the last five Presidents but four out of five isn’t bad.

Here’s how Daly ranks these four Presidents in his own words. “(Bill) Clinton couldn’t play at all — Clinton was Mr. Mulligan — but I think Bush Sr. was probably the best that I played with,” he said. “(George W.) Bush was OK. Just not quite as good as (his dad) was.” He also placed President Trump second on the list even though they don’t keep score when they hit the course. Unfortunately, Daly wasn’t able to play with President Obama.
While Daly enjoys playing with the Presidents, especially because its informal and not a political discussion, he still prefers to play with a different group when he’s trying to relax. In his own words, Daly prefers playing with some other professionals in the Florida/Arkansas area or his “redneck, beer drinking buddies.” But I’m sure he would never turn down an invitation to play with the leader of the free world.
The only way that we will ever truly know who the best President of these four is on the golf course would be if the leaders all played together in a foursome but that’s not going to happen. So for now, we’ll just have to take Daly’s word for it.
