Jon Rahm Might Have Landed On His LIV Golf Team Name
How often do you think about the Roman Empire?
LIV Golf’s newest captain, Jon Rahm, is allegedly using it as a metaphor for his own reign for 2024 and beyond.
The name refers to soldiers who fought under Julius Caesar and has just launched an account on X that has been followed by various LIV fan accounts and Handicap 54, the account responsible for many correct LIV signing predictions in 2022 and 2023.
Spanish media publication Marca is reporting that Keiran Vincent will be Jon Rahm’s first signing to his new LIV team, ‘Legio XIII’. This should mean that Jinichiro Kozuma will be signing for the Ironheads instead. 2 open spots still remain on Jon’s team. https://t.co/6L97V8ZrbP

It feels like satire, but at this point, nothing is a surprise in professional golf. The team’s name apparently has a subtle deeper meaning, as explained by various LIV Fan accounts.
“Legio XIII Gemina was a group of Roman soldiers during the Roman Empire was known for its service in modern day Spain and played a crucial part in the Romanization of what is now Spain and Portugal. The Romans left a significant mark on these regions and had a lot of cultural influence over the region Rahm is from.”
Bet you didn’t think that would be relevant to golf a couple of years ago.
Jon Rahm’s swing has certainly evolved over the years. 😂

Several outlets have run with the idea that a former Spanish legion has inspired Rahm’s new team, which is set to include Jinichiro Kozuma, former Japan Tour player and the two-time winner who qualified via Promotions.
The communications from LIV have been dire in the new year as the teams and schedule are not finalized, but Rahm’s team is expected to form quickly and be a formidable force in 2024, just as the former legions were so long ago…
