A week after Thanksgiving in the United States, Jon Rahm had a surprising statement about what PGA Tour players should be thankful for: LIV Golf.

Rahm, the 2021 U.S. Open winner and betting favorite at this weekend’s Hero World Challenge, always speaks what’s on his mind, whether it be about LIV, Official World Golf Ranking points, or anything else.

Speaking in the Bahamas, Rahm said that the emergence of LIV has been good for all golfers.

Rahm said:

“I think on this side of things we should be thankful that LIV happened. I don’t know if those changes would have happened if LIV wasn’t in the picture. So to an extent, yeah, we should be thankful. Change can always be exciting. Like I said, on this side a lot of the changes we owe to the appearance of LIV.”

The Spaniard has been linked to LIV off and on, but he appears content on the PGA Tour, committing to the Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy-backed TGL primetime league in 2024.

Despite not being in attendance this year, Phil Mickelson was a topic all week. Tiger Woods was critical of the three-time Masters winner, and Lefty, of course, had a retort.

When it comes to Mickelson, Rahm seems cool with each player making the professional path that they’re most comfortable with.

Rahm explained:

“Phil is my friend and I’m going to treat him as such. I understand why people think the way — why people thought certain things. I may agree with it or not, but it’s not my place to tell them what to say or not to say, obviously. Some things I agree with, some things I didn’t agree with.”

Rahm is part of a 20-man elite field at the Hero World Challenge, which is a tournament put on by Woods. In his last tournament, Rahm won the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai earlier this month.
