Jon Rahm to LIV Golf: CONFIRMED
The rumours were true.
Jon Rahm has officially signed with LIV golf. The official fee is believed to be in excess of half a billion dollars. That’s billion, with a B.
£450m for those on one side of the Atlantic. $565m for those on the other.
Among the reasons for his transfer from the PGA Tour are his dissatisfaction with the leadership, and wanting to improve the standard of play on the LIV tour.
His links with Phil Mickelson, brother Tim, and Sergio Garcia are well known.
Despite unequivocally declaring his loyalty to the PGA Tour only a year ago, Rahm has slowly become disenfranchised with the leadership on the PGA Tour. The pros now outweigh the cons of jumping ship to LIV golf – and he is on his way.

Not only will he become one of the richest athletes on the planet, he will have the opportunity to spearhead the changes needed in LIV. They can probably build a stronger case for ranking points if the worlds best player is teeing it up. If the merger is to go ahead, LIV and the PIF have so much leverage now, and can threaten to continually sign the best players in the world until the framework agreement is to their liking.
It’s an earth shattering situation; a monumental amount of money, and a new beginning for Jon Rahm at 29 years old and a two time major champion. He has exemptions in the Masters for life, the US Open until 2031, and exempt from the Open and PGA for the next four years. You could argue now is an ideal time to leave the PGA, and focus on compiling those major exemptions.
It changes everything, pointing LIV in the right direction and stunning the PGA Tour, who have to be thinking it is time to get rid of their entire senior leadership. But the summary is Jon Rahm has signed for LIV Golf, receiving a sum of money that is believed to be $565 million.
