Jordan Spieth Says He Lost to Barack Obama in Golf
On an appearance with James Corden of The Late Late Show, Jordan Spieth shared many tidbits about his time on the PGA TOUR and his personal life. In one segment, Spieth described to the audience a recent outing that he had with NBA star Stephen Curry and former President Barack Obama. And when asked how good Obama is on the course, Spieth gave a surprising answer.
The three-time major winner admitted that he lost to the former President on the last hole. After playing pretty evenly for the entire day, Obama and Spieth’s contest came down to 18, where a small crowd gathered to watch the group finish up.
The former President then buried a ten-foot double breaking putt to beat Jordan. He claimed that once a crowd gathers, he doesn’t miss.

Other than finding out that the former President has a clutch gene, Spieth said that playing with Obama was a cool experience. “He was incredibly cool,” Spieth said of Obama. “Like I would expect any former president … one of the highlights would be once your presidency is over you can kind of mess with everybody.” Obama also joked with Spieth about how he wouldn’t believe what the aliens actually look like.
President Obama, like all Presidents before and after him, was an avid golfer in the White House but was always seen as more of a basketball star. But if what Spieth says is true, Barack has the golf skill to take down a perennial winner on the PGA TOUR. And if that’s the case, maybe a retirement plan for Obama could be picking up a PGA TOUR card.
While this was certainly an interesting story, it was just one small part of Spieth’s visit with James Corden. To see what else went down, check out the video posted from last night’s episode.
