Justin Rose Qualifies for The Open: ‘I Still Feel Like I Can Win’
Justin Rose had to play qualifiers to make it into the 152nd Open Championship at Royal Troon later this month.
He made it, and he says he still feels like he can become the Champion Golfer of the Year:
“I still feel like I can win The Open. To win it, you’ve got to be in it. That was key today to come here and get that job done, and give myself the opportunity at that dream.”
Justin Rose is met by warm applause as he arrives at the 18th green at Burnham and Berrow. He gets in with a par to finish at -8, tied for the best score of the day. Rose, along with a sizeable group of other golfers, was fighting for one of sixteen spots in the final Major Championship of 2024.
The winner of the 2013 U.S. Open at Merion will be at Royal Troon after winning the qualifier at Burnham and Berrow with a score of -8. He outlasted amateur Dominic Clemons, Charlie Lindh, and Abraham Ancer, who will join him at The Open later this month. Lindh and Ancer qualified in a playoff.
Rose admits that there might be a time in the future where he is just hoping to qualify to play in The Open. For Europeans, it is something of an honor to play in it. For anyone it is, but for it to be the only Major on European soil, it’s just special to them:
“There’s moments where you just want to qualify for The Open, and I’m sure that might come in my career just to be at another Open.”

But Rose, who less than a year ago was a main factor in the European’s domination of the Americans at Marco Simione in Italy at the Ryder Cup in 2023, is coming to win.
