Justin Thomas’s 2023 Remind Us That It’s Okay to Shoot and Miss Every Now and Then
Justin Thomas’s 2023 on the golf course did not go as he had hoped.
While it’s clear that the 30-year-old suffered through his worst season by failing to earn a victory or reach the FedEx Cup playoffs for the first time in his career, Thomas is maintaining a good sense of humor about his struggles.

On Instagram, the former FedEx Cup champ and two-time major winner revisited his list of goals coming into the year and noted that there’s a lot of red next to those items.

“Well, at least I got one check mark!” Thomas wrote. “[2023] provided my best opportunity for learning experiences and areas to grow. I’m thankful to have an amazing team around me who works their tails off to continue to work hard to win tournaments and improve.”
After missing the cut in three of the four majors and missing out on the playoffs, Thomas’s fortunes did turn a bit.
While his inclusion at the Ryder Cup was controversial, he was one of the few U.S. players to finish the three days in Rome with a winning record – going 2-0-1 in playing three of five matches.
In one PGA Tour Fall event, Thomas finished fifth at the Fortinet Championship, was fourth in a strong field at the DP World Tour’s Nedbank Golf Challenge, and placed third at the all-star Hero World Challenge.

Thomas acknowledged those positive steps in his post.
Thomas wrote:
“We saw LOTS of positives and great things these last few months, and I am excited for a few weeks off with family and friends to relax.”
While we won’t know what Thomas is writing down for his 2024 goals until this time next year, it’s safe to say he is poised for better things in the year to come.
