Rookie Phenom Ludvig Aberg Explains Why LIV Golf Wasn’t For Him
While LIV Golf did get its big catch in Jon Rahm, it appears that they’re casting a wide net in attempts to land more stars for their series in 2024.
After hearing that FedEx Cup champion Viktor Hovland and Tony Finau turned down offers to join the series, the sport’s fastest-rising rookie is doing the same.
Ludvig Aberg, 24, said on a Eurosport podcast in his native Sweden that he received an offer from LIV but is sticking with the PGA Tour, where he will be playing his first full season in 2024.
Aberg said in a translation from the podcast:
“There were a number of red flags, which is not good. We realized that I could potentially burn a lot of bridges, and I wasn’t interested in that. When I look back, I am very confident in my decision. I will never chase money; what I do is compete. I did the right thing.”
It’s no surprise that LIV Golf has approached Ludvig Aberg, and the Swede recently got honest about why he’s turned down the Saudi-backed circuit not once, but twice.
“I will never chase money, what I do is compete.”

Aberg turned pro in June and promptly won on the DP World Tour, which got him an invitation from Luke Donald to the European Ryder Cup team. After finishing 2-2 there, he reached a playoff in the Sanderson Farms Championship on the PGA Tour Fall swing and won the RSM Classic by four shots with a score of 29-under for the tournament.

“I want to play against the best because I am a competitive person and like to compete against the best players,” Aberg said. “Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like that at the moment, it’s a bit more fragmented.”
After his impressive fall, Aberg ranks 32nd in the Official World Golf Ranking, which will get him into the four majors and all of the PGA Tour’s Signature Events in 2024.
