The “tee flick heard around the world” has certainly gotten the attention of the golf world, as PGA Tour pros have been commenting on the video of Patrick Reed tossing his 4 Aces-branded tee at Rory McIlroy on the range at Emirates Golf Club in Dubai on Tuesday.

McIlroy explained that he didn’t have anything to say because Reed’s attorneys served him with a subpoena on Christmas Eve last year in connection with a July private meeting McIlroy and Tiger Woods held with PGA Tour players as LIV Golf was getting off the ground. McIlroy quipped that he would likely add to his legal issues with Reed if the roles were reversed.

Reed said that he was trying to be professional to McIlroy when the Northern Irishman didn’t look up from his Trackman after the former Masters winner approached.

Halfway around the world from Dubai at Torrey Pines in La Jolla, California, McIlroy’s contemporaries on the PGA Tour had some fun at what can be loosely described as a confrontation.

After the first round of the Farmers Insurance Open, Max Homa posted about his day, which included no legal action taken against him. Collin Morikawa also got in on the fun.

Justin Thomas, who shot a -4 in the first round at Torrey Pines, wrote afterward:

“I hope Rory and Pat are gonna be okay to play after this terrible, dangerous incident… what a tragedy!”

Adding to the drama, McIlroy and Reed could have a chance to play together over the weekend at the Dubai Desert Classic. After the first round was suspended due to darkness, Reed was in second place at -4 after 16 holes, whereas McIlroy is currently at -2 after 15 holes.
