Justin Thomas Shot from the Hazard at the WGC Match Play Was Literally Unbelievable
Justin Thomas is quickly making the 2018 “shots of the year” list his own personal highlight reel.
We all remember this epic hole out from just a few weeks ago.

This highlight is delivered by PGA TOUR LIVE.
Wow does that shot leave me with a lot of questions!
First, how did he even find that ball?
Second, how was he able to get a club on it with all that thick, long overgrowth?
And most importantly, how did he get a clean enough strike to put some serious spin on the ball to stop it dead on the green?
Most of us have trouble generating decent spin from a normal shot from the rough. Just a handful of blades of grass between your clubface and the ball can cause the dreaded “flyer,” so what Thomas did from that thick cabbage is some Houdini level escape artistry.
The shot also speaks volumes for how great the match play format on the PGA TOUR can be. I have to wonder, would JT have even tried that shot in stroke play? If that ball doesn’t make it out of the hazard or flies long and OB he’d be staring down a triple bogey or worse on that hole. But in match play guys can take on some riskier shots because the worst case would be a concession on the hole (there’s no score carry over).
So cheers to JT for pulling off one epic shot and cheers to the PGA TOUR and WGC for mixing it up with these match play style events.
