Kirkland Ball is Hottest New Golf Ball on the Market
For years, there has been a consistent argument over what the best golf ball to tee up with. In recent years, the consensus of most golfers has been that the Titleist Pro V1 ball is the best quality in the game. That assumption may be changing, however, after Costco introduced a new ball to their shelves two months ago.
The Costco marketed Kirkland Signature brand golf ball has been flying off shelves in stores because it is rumored to be the same quality of the Pro V1 but for a fraction of the cost. To put this into numbers, the Pro V1 sells for about $5 per ball. The Kirkland Signature brand, however, only sells for $1.25 per ball. That means a pack of a dozen Kirkland balls will cost only $15 compared to the typical $40 that a dozen of Pro V1’s go for.
Because this ball is so much cheaper, it is hard to believe that it could as good or better than marquee balls like the Pro V1. To find out, there was a comparative test done by MyGolfSpy, a product reviewer, that tested the quality of both balls against each other. Through their examination, it was determined that the Pro V1 performed only marginally better than the Kirkland Signature Series, except when they tested driving. When both balls were hit with a driver, the Kirkland ball actually went 10 yards further and outperformed the Pro V1.
With how well the Kirkland Signature series is performing in tests, it is challenging an old standard in the golf world, that the most expensive products give the highest quality. Since the Kirkland ball is much cheaper than the typical marquee ball but still carries amazing quality, it seems price is no longer indicative of quality. Adam Beach, the owner of MyGolfSpy, agrees with this sentiment, as he told the Wall Street Journal that “This is just a perception killer. This will change the entire industry.”

While these balls have not gained major traction with any professional players, they are certainly popular with the general public as they have been sold out for almost two months. It will be interesting to see if the ball continues to sell at such a great rate and if any pros will endorse the quality of the Kirkland Signature Series in the future.
