LIV Golf CEO Norman on League’s Future: ‘Long List of Players Want to Come In’

Speaking ahead of LIV Golf’s debut in Greg Norman’s home country of Australia, the LIV Golf CEO says we haven’t seen the last of big-name signings for the circuit.

Going into the second season of LIV, Norman said that there would be around seven spots open for top golfers to come on board. In the end, arguably the biggest defector from the PGA Tour was Mito Pereira.

According to Norman, more golfers want to come in, but the issue is that no spots are available.

Norman told NCA Newswire:

“It’s an ongoing process. We’ve got a long list of players who want to come in. We just don’t have the ability today because players are under contract. But we’ll get to a position where there will be a relegation series and places will start opening up.”

There have been reports of players being bounced from the 12 four-golfer teams at the end of each season. This would theoretically open the door for new players to join the league.

As he was following the 2022 LIV finale at Doral, Norman is still bullish on the caliber of golfers who want to join the circuit:

“It’s incredible the amount of players who want to come on board. It would surprise you how good those names are.”

Expect things to be quiet during the 2023 season, so we won’t know which players Norman is referring to until later this year.

LIV Golf Adelaide is the fourth event of the season and takes place this weekend at The Grange Golf Club.
