In another move by LIV Golf to help shed the early image the tour had of only signing golfers who were past their prime, the new series has signed one of the top amateur golfers in the country.

Arizona State’s David Puig, 20, announced that he will be forgoing his final year of NCAA eligibility to turn pro and join LIV, starting with this weekend’s event in Chicago.

In the statement, Puig said that he will continue to live in Tempe and attend classes at ASU in order to graduate in the next year.

In his collegiate career, Puig won three events as a Sun Devil and finished 11th in the individual NCAA championship last year. He is currently No. 9 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking.

Puig, from Spain, did participate in two LIV Golf events earlier this year as a amateur, finishing 40th out of 48 in the series’ inaugural event in June and 42nd out of 48 in last month’s event at Bedminster, New Jersey.

For the team portion of the LIV Golf events, Puig will be on the Torque GC team with Joaquin Niemann, Scott Vincent, and Jed Morgan.
