Lucas Glover Withdrew from the WM Phoenix Open for the Craziest Reason

Golfers have missed tournaments for all sorts of reasons.

But for Lucas Glover, his withdrawal from the WM Phoenix Open looks entirely different.

In his hotel room preparing for the first round of the annual TPC Scottsdale event, Glover said that he received a phone call from PGA Tour officials reminding him that he tees off at 8:26 a.m. local time.

Problem was, the phone call came at 8:25 a.m.

Glover told Golf Channel that he misread the text messages he received over his tee time.

“I’m kicking myself but laughing at myself at the same time,” Glover said.

Glover, who would’ve been disqualified if he pulled a no-show, did have the good sense to withdraw from the tournament, which allowed first alternate Ryo Hisatsune a spot into the field at literally the last minute.

The PGA Tour rules state that a player can tee off up to five minutes late and incur a two-stroke penalty, but it was clear Glover wouldn’t make it in time.

Glover being a good sport about it is likely because of his hot streak last summer, when he won two straight events to lock him into all of the Signature Events and Majors this year.
