The Masters Tournament in 2024 will be Verne Lundquist’s last, as the legendary voice will bid farewell to that special weekend in April this year.

Lundquist has hinted in the past that the 2024 Masters will be his final call at the tournament, bringing an end to what was a legendary and near-perfect pairing.

In 2022, Lundquist said that he and CBS Sports Chairman Sean McManus discussed his future at Augusta (via Golf.com):

“I’m good to go for next year. That will be number 39, and he and I have agreed — and this is not announced and I don’t mean to jump the gun here — but in all likelihood, number 40 will likely be my last. Just because it will be time. I think that’s the plan.”

Overseeing the sights and sounds of the Par 3-16th, Lundquist has had some of the most memorable calls in Masters history.

The most notable is likely that of Tiger Woods’s chip for birdie in 2005, when he triumphed over Chris DiMarco thanks to what is widely considered one of the greatest shots in the history of golf.

Lundquist said about the call:

“Honest to god, all I was doing was reacting to what I saw in front of me. I was reacting as if I was someone watching in the sports bar or in his or her living room.”

2024 is set to be the final walk through Augusta for several notable names around the property. Two-time winner Bernhard Langer was set to play in his final tournament this Spring, but is likely to be sidelined with an Achilles injury. It is unclear if he will attempt to play his final tournament in 2025 instead.

Inspired by the likes of Woods, Palmer, McIlroy, and Koepka, Joey plays over 100 times a year in the South Central Pennsylvania area. When he isn't golfing, he is probably thinking about golfing, but he might be watching other sports, writing, or playing poker.
