Matt Kuchar Has ENRAGED Golf Fans: ‘He is Crazy Selfish’
Matt Kuchar ENRAGED golf fans on Sunday as he refused to finish his final round of the Wyndham Championship despite being out of contention to make the FedEx Cup Playoffs.
Kuchar marked his ball just off the 18th green on Sunday, citing darkness. He will finish his round on Monday morning.
However, Kuchar’s move baffled fans everywhere, as he cannot make the FedEx Cup Playoffs due to being out of the Top 70 in points. The reason for not finishing the hole and his tournament is because of a potential pay bump of $100,000 if he finishes with a birdie on the final hole.
Matt Kuchar was on the 18th hole when the sun set at @WyndhamChamp Sunday. He had the option to finish or come back on Monday. Kuchar (currently tied for 12th) opted to come back Monday.
With birdie, he’ll earn $233,833. With par, he’ll cash $134,685. pic.twitter.com/Q2xIuSWNjn

Sure, $100,000 sounds like a viable reason to stay around. But many fans are citing the fact that Kuchar has made $59.8 million in his career, and plenty of those same people were sure to bring up the caddie payment controversy that occurred several years ago.
The move by Kuchar on Sunday has drawn plenty of criticism:
Matt Kuchar pulling off a crazy selfish move.
While not in contention, he has chosen to not finish 18 due to darkness. Just him. So tons of staff and crew have to come back for just him to finish half a golf hole.

Matt Kuchar just proved he is a piece of crap for all who gave him the benefit of doubt when he screwed his local caddie in Mexico with a 5,000 winning caddie payment.

Matt Kuchar is tied for 12th and is going to come back and finish tomorrow?
What in the world.

Kuchar defended his decision, bringing other players and their situations into the mix. He felt that the tournament should have been called earlier as darkness was playing a major factor:
“We were so far past when we should’ve stopped playing. We saw what Max [Greyserman] did on hole 16; they should’ve blown the hole there. I feel bad, the poor kid should’ve won this tournament. By me not playing, it may show Max he has an important shot to hit.”
While it may seem like, based on his comments, Kuchar’s decision was a noble attempt to protest the time it takes to finish a round of golf, it does not necessarily seem like this is the best way to do it. The reaction from fans is evidence of that. Instead, and based on Kuchar’s past accusations of underpaying a caddie after a win, it appears the $100,000 pay difference is potentially why he made the decision he did. Plenty of others felt like it was understandable to finish.
Kuchar had just three shots, at an absolute maximum, left before his round would be official. Perhaps it would be more appropriate to take a stand at some other time.
