In a scene that was unprecedented in recent memory, eventual FedEx Cup champion Scottie Scheffler was arrested the morning of round two of the PGA Championship while driving to Valhalla before his tee time in Louisville, Kentucky.

Just a few months later, the scene nearly repeated itself on Sunday.

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill, one of the star players in the NFL, was stopped on his way to Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. He was detained, as video showed him handcuffed on the ground.

Unlike Scheffler, Hill was uncuffed and released; he was not arrested. But comparisons to Scheffler were all over social media on Sunday.

Also mirroring the Scheffler incident, Hill came out and played great despite the ordeal. Scheffler shot 66 after the was released from jail, and Hill scored an 80-yard touchdown.

One of the Miami-Dade Police Officers involved was placed on administrative leave Sunday. On Monday, the union representing the police department said that Hill was being uncooperative.

Steadman Stahl, president of the South Florida Police Benevolent Association, said in a statement:

“Upon being stopped, Mr. Hill was not immediately cooperative with the officers on scene who, pursuant to policy and for their immediate safety, placed Mr. Hill in handcuffs. Mr. Hill, still uncooperative, refused to sit on the ground and was therefore redirected to the ground. Once the situation was sorted out with a few minutes, Mr. Hill was issued two traffic citations and was free to leave.”

After the game, Hill said he had no idea why things escalated the way they did.

“Right now, I’m still trying to put it all together … I still don’t know what happened,” Hill said. “But I do want to use this platform to say, ‘What if I wasn’t Tyreek Hill?’ Worst-case scenario, you know? … Everybody has bad apples in every situation, but I want to be able to use this platform to figure out a way to flip this and make it a positive on my end and Miami-Dade and do something positive for the community.”

The NFL and NFL Players Association have yet to make an official comment on the situation.
