On ‘Golf’s longest day,’ we saw crazy golf swings, Viktor Hovland acting as caddie for his friend, one-handed chipping, and a 13-year-old shoot 73 – all in the pursuit of a US Open qualifying spot.

After his fairytale finish at Oak Hill, Michael Block tried his luck at the US Open, shooting 69-66 for a five-under-par 135 in his two rounds at Lambton Golf & Country Club in Toronto, finishing in sixth place. Block’s son Dylan was also trying to qualify on the other side of the continent, over at Hillcrest in Los Angeles.

Michael Block was one of many trying to qualify this week. Twenty-seven players competed for three spots, with Ryan Armour taking third place at seven under par, two better than the crowd favorite from California.

Ahead of Block was 2016 PGA Champion Jimmy Walker, and recent T3 finisher at the Charles Schwab – England’s Harry Hall. Block finished ahead of PGA Tour players Harry Higgs, Richy Werenski, and Englishman Callum Tarren.

Block has a sponsor’s exemption for the RBC Canadian Open in Toronto this week, one of two he received after making the cut and finishing T15 at the PGA in New York.

The US Open field is now finalized, with the event scheduled for next week at LACC.
