Michelle Wie Announced She Will Be Stepping Back From The LPGA Tour

The U.S. Women’s Open winner seems to be turning the chapter. She recently announced she will be stepping away from the LPGA next week after the conclusion of the 2022 U.S. Women’s Open.

It is a suitable exit for a golf career at Pine Needles Resort and Lodge in Southern Pines, North Carolina, which is only a few steps from Pinehurst No.2 where Wie West won the U.S. Women’s Open in 2014. The young mother who took maternity leave in 2020 seems pleased with her playing career.

She sat down with Golfweek’s Beth Ann Nichols and made some revealing comments about her playing future. “At times, if I do play a lot of golf,” she said, “I’m just in bed. Or I can’t lift (Makenna, her daughter) up, and that scared me.”

Injuries have affected her career and she wants to be healthy to spend quality time with her daughter. Michelle also noted that, told Nichols, “I think if I hadn’t won the U.S. Open, I’d still be out there competing week to week trying to get that U.S. Open win.”

Wie West might just play the U.S. Open once a year due to exemption status she has but has made clear she hasn’t ruled anything out.
