Mickelson Sounds Off on Twitter at the OWGR
Formerly the loudest voice in the LIV golf emergence of 2022, Phil Mickelson has been relatively quiet on social media until now.
His incredible performance at the Masters got the attention of the world and proved he is still here to compete, not just take his money and settle for mediocre golf, as some had suggested would happen.
He is now echoing the thoughts of all LIV Golfers of late, who are requesting a more accurate system for ranking the worlds golfers, as some LIV players are slowly slipping down the rankings despite playing solid golf. Mickelson took to Twitter to sound his opinion last night.

Mickelson replied to Colt Knost, explaining he has past champion exemptions in three of the majors, so this isn’t just for him. He wants to ‘call out the collusion’ that’s happening behind closed doors, to ‘help JM get all his TV money.’ We can assume JM refers to Jay Monahan, the PGA Tour Commissioner, who will not be at the top of Phil Mickelson’s Christmas list.
Mickelson also explained that it is the OWGR committee’s job to rank the world’s players. That there is no criteria, and it is up to the committee whether to include LIV events in their rankings. He insists that there is no criteria to meet, and as of last night, is very vocal in doing so, replying to a mix of intrigued Twitter users.
The discussions regarding the Official World Golf Ranking are becoming more frequent, as Talor Gooch wins back-to-back LIV events but was still unsure whether he’d qualify for the PGA Championship.
Should LIV events be included in the OWGR? Weighted differently from four-round events with a cut, and if so, by how much? Is it a slap in the face to those who stayed on the PGA Tour?
What do you think?
