The news we’ve been all waiting to hear has finally been revealed by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s office; Tiger Wood’s horrific car crash was caused by excessive speed, not impairment of any kind, as some had speculated.

This morning Sheriff Alex Villanueva took to the podium to explain the findings of their investigation into Wood’s crash. It was determined that the primary causal factor was the Woods was driving at a speed deemed unsafe for that particular road.

The road had a speed limit of 45 mph, and Woods was reportedly traveling somewhere in the neighborhood of 84-87 mph, which was ultimately too fast to handle the steep curve of the road. It was also reported that when the vehicle struck the tree (the final point of collision) the car was traveling around 75 mph.

Since the crash on Feb 23, people have speculated and wondered what the cause may have been. Of course, some people jumped right to their own conclusions that he was drinking and driving, or impaired in some way. The Sheriff’s department made sure to put this notion to rest.

“There were no signs of impairment,” said Alex Villanueva.

When asked about why there were no blood tests done or why the possibility of Woods being impaired weren’t fully considered at the scene of the crash, Villanueva was very clear.

“Our primary concern was his safety,” Villanueva said.

Villanueva also made it very clear that Woods was not given any preferential or special treatment due to his social status or position, and that despite what some people think, they couldn’t use his previous DUI from 2017 as “probably cause” to move forward with the narrative that his was impaired while operating the vehicle.

The findings of this investigation come mainly from the “black box” or data recorder that was taken from the car, which was only taken after a search warrant to do so was obtained.

At this time, no citations have been issued to Woods. The department said that speed itself wasn’t enough to issue a citation, as there was no proof of reckless driving.

“There was no independent witnesses regarding the speeding, and there was no peace officer present,” Villanueva said. “Each case is decided on a case by case basis, the decision was made not to issue a citation.”
